PM Must Reshuffle Her Cabinet

All neutral observers and well wishers of Bangladesh now strongly feels that the time has come for Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh to critically assess, review the performance of her cabinet and team of advisors. Muslim Identity and Demography in the Arakan state of Burma (Part 2)

Location of Rakhine State in Burma

Analysis: The Land and the Indigenous People of Arakan:

To incite violence and bigotry against the Rohingya Muslims of Arakan, Khin Maung Saw does not waste any time. He starts with a picture of a Muslim congregational prayer on the front page, followed by a photo of some soldiers (or possibly guerillas) sitting on the ground.  The connotation is quite obvious. However, such fear-mongering tactics will not succeed and would only lay bare the hideous character of their accusers, as it did in Norway. After all, of all the various communities that call Arakan their home, it is the Rakhine Maghs of Burma that have continued to practice violence; they want a ‘free’ Arakan away from the no less monstrous military brutes of Burma, while still purporting to retain its racist, non-democratic and fascist character that does not allow integration and multi-culture.

In his prologue Saw mentions the story of an ‘ungrateful’ camel that had dislodged its master from the tent. He does not duck the connotation by stating that the Rohingyas of Burma are like that camel in the story that are trying to dislodge the ‘owner’ of the tent. By ‘owner’, he Continue reading

Gas Transmission Planning in Bangladesh

Despite of suggestions from professional experts Bangladesh has not yet adopted appropriate strategy to diversify its fuel for energy. Natural Gas still remains the basic primary fuel for power generation, industrial, commercial use. The contingency measures Bangladesh adopted so far in setting up several imported liquid fuel based rental plants has created serious strain on the economy for subsidence burden. The price hike of fuel and power to confront the situation has already created serious hue and cry. Bangladesh has failed to initiate mining of own coal in the most technically appropriate and financially viable manner. Even if the mining starts now it will take 3-4 years to reap the harvest out of it. Import of LNG and Coal will Continue reading

Continue reading

Part 2: Gas Value chain in Mess

One of the main reasons of the present gas crisis is the inappropriate strategy for exploration and production and failure in increasing gas production significantly over the last 5 years. Four party alliance Government could add Moulavibazar and Bhangura Gas Fields to national grid and start development of Bibiyana Gas Field. Present government initiated fast track gas well drilling program which in three years failed to reach advanced stage. The initiative taken to engage drilling contractor for 4 development wells at Titas and one at Rashidpoor Gas Field failed. Exploration at Chakajol produced dry hole. Policymakers wasted more than a year Continue reading

Continue reading

One who loves also cares. One who cares can change. Those who change are movers and shakers.
